11 Tips For Joining Affiliate Programs

Here are some things that I look for before joining an affiliate 

program. They are items I feel are imperative to being in a 

successful affiliate program.


1. The affiliate program has a great payment structure. For me, a 

high commission that is also a high percentage of the purchase price 

is essential. Nothing under 25% commission.


2. Make sure the affiliate program you are joining has a good looking 

site. You do not want to be sending visitors to a site that you do 

not like yourself.


3. Make sure they offer a comprehensive affiliate statistics page

that lists the number of click throughs, number of sales and amount 

earned. This should be broken down per month.


4. Also make sure that the affiliate statistics are updated 

automatically and immediately. You do not want to find out today 

about a sale you made a week ago.


5. Ensure they give a wide variety of text links, banners and 

graphics to put on your web page. Although I prefer text links, 

certain types of banners and graphics still work well.


6. Know how often you are going to be paid. If you are tossing up 

between 2 programs and one pays monthly and the other pays quarterly, 

the one that pays monthly is better. You do not want to wait months 

before getting paid for your hard work!


7. See if the affiliate program gives examples of how the top 

affiliates are doing. This can be a great pointer to whether it is 

good or not. If some affiliates are earning many thousands per month, 

it is a good affiliate program.


8. Along these lines, also see if they give examples of what 

marketing methods these successful affiliates are using to get the 

best results.


9. An affiliate program that offers a special monthly newsletter just 

for the affiliates is great. Here you can get extra tips and 

techniques that are working well.


10. See if they offer email notification when you make a sale or get 

an affiliate signed up under you (if it is a 2-tier program). It is 

good to see `You have made another sale’ in your inbox.


11. Ensure top level support is given. If they cannot answer your 

query straight away make sure they can respond within 48 hours.


There is tremendous demand for affiliate programs and choosing the 

right one is no easy task. Make sure you do plenty of research before 

joining one.

Don’t chase the shiny new objects that promises you push button traffic (while you sell their push button traffic products) Forget the pre-launches, re-launches, and new opportunity of the week. The deal of a lifetime happens every week in this business.

  • Learn how to create your own traffic sources. Whether its paid or free marketing. Learn this skill and put it to use. It doesn’t matter where you learn it from.
  • When you master a marketing skill it will open other opportunities for joint ventures, partnerships, and you will be able to tap into someone else’s skills and leverage your time and money. That’s the true secret. A Quarterback doesn’t throw the ball to himself. He uses other people’s skills to score.
  • Set a schedule and stick to it. Nothing happens until it is scheduled. You show up on time for your job and stay there until you finish. Now do the same for your business. Scheduled your reading, trainings, and events.
  • Attend events in your industry. There is nothing like learning in person and masterminding with people who share the same interest in business as you. You all have something in common and the word T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves More comes into place. You can build relationships that last for years.
  • Finally… DO NOT QUIT! Push until something happens. Get clear on your end result. I repeat one more time. Follow One Course Until Successful. Don’t get distracted. Build your primary business. Nothing should make you change lanes. Quitting is never an option.

So here’s the first thing you need to know: Working from home is a privilege, but you have to earn it. You DO have to put in some effort on your own part. But know that the end result is worth the effort and it gets WAAAAAY easier as you keep doing it. Okay, read on…
So I was unemployed last year, trying to find a job. Unfortunately, no one was hiring. I decided that if I couldn’t GET a job, I would just MAKE one for myself instead! I went online to research different ways to make money from home, working online.
I see ads for ways to make money online all the time, so I wanted to check the validity of them. After some searching, I came across a website called Wealthy Affiliate. It was really well put together and didn’t have that “fake” feel. They explained how I could work from the comfort of my own home, working as an article marketer.
I’m pretty confident in my ability to write simple stuff, which is all article marketing is anyways. I’ve been doing this for 10 months now and I am making more than I did at my last job. Also, I now understand how I can tweak my writing and my articles to really make some money with them.
Anyways, if you want to make money from home, work as an article writer. Wealthy Affiliate Univeristy teaches you everything and then some. Then you take it from there and make your own creative, work-at-home business. Enjoy the freedom of not having a boss and getting to work in your pajamas! Haha, this is seriously the best job I’ve ever had.
People with moderate writing abilities and a little more than moderate level of work ethic can easily master article writing. I like to play guitar, so most of my articles are about guitar related subjects. This is what makes article writing “easy”. You write about stuff you KNOW about. If you can write about stuff you ENJOY, even better. You can write about ANYTHING you want! Now that I’ve been doing this for a while, I realize that it really IS easy to make money from home, working in article marketing. You just have to LEARN it first. Not that hard.

Online Business Success – Be Passionate About What You Do

It is hard to have online business success without being passionate about what you do. There is nothing more discouraging than waking up and dreading the walk to your computer. You try to get work done and yet you can’t will your fingers to move.
What’s wrong? Chances are, you are reluctant because you simply don’t enjoy your job anymore. Working from home is a dream that not everyone realizes. If you are fortunate enough to be able to make money from home it can be hard to admit that something related to your business isn’t going right.
Well, perhaps it is time to explore what it means to be passionate about your work and do what you need to do to get there. Rather than struggle to get your work done each day, get to the root of the problem. Turn your business into something that will fill your life with passion and joy.

Tax Benefits For Sole Traders Working From Home In UK

Working from home is growing more and more popular.
After all, when you’re just starting up in business, why take on the cost of having an office?
And it makes it much easier to fit round family commitments.
But are there any tax reliefs available when you work all, or part of your time, at home? After all, you’re being kind to the environment by not commuting, and if your business was office-based then you’d be able to claim the costs of that office as part of your business expenses.
The answer is yes, reliefs are available!
But what are they and how do you claim them?
Here on the FreeAgent blog our latest mini-series of tax articles is going to deal with working from home, and we’re going to start with sole traders.

How much do you work at home?

Different home-based business owners spend different amounts of their time working from home.
If you’re a piano teacher, you may spend some time teaching your pupils at your home, but you might also spend time giving piano lessons in a school, or playing the piano for ballet classes at the local dance academy.
But if you’re a jobbing gardener, the only business activity you’re likely to do at home is to write up your business books.

How much of your home do you use for your business?

Yet again, every home-based business will be different.
If you’re a writer, you’ll probably have one room designated as your study and you’ll mostly work there. But on a fine day you might want to take your work out into the garden and tap away on your laptop in the sun (just watch out for low-flying pigeons).
A home-based accountant might work in a study but meet and greet clients in their living-room.
It depends on you, your home and your business!

HM Revenue’s view

The good news is that HM Revenue accept that every sole trader who works at home some or all of the time, will have a different set-up.
So, when you work at home, you’re allowed to take a proportion of all your home running costs and put those into your expenses, so that they reduce your profit and you pay less tax.

How is the proportion worked out?

HM Revenue know that when you’re home-based, you won’t get different bills for your business and private running costs. The Electricity Board won’t send you two bills, one for your business electricity and the other for your private electricity. So HM Revenue are happy for you to work out a proportion of your total running costs.
HM Revenue suggest you work out what proportion to use depending on how much of your home you use for business at all, and how much you’re using that part of your home for business use as opposed to private use. 
For example:
I live in a house with 10 rooms.
Of those rooms, I work sometimes in my office and sometimes in my living-room, on my computer. The office is also used for hobby use as a music-room, and I estimate that I use it for business 85% of the time. The living-room is only rarely used for business, I’d estimate 10%.
(HM Revenue are happy to accept a reasonable estimate of business use. They don’t expect you to sit with a ticking time-clock totting up how much time you spend working in each room.)
I receive an electricity bill for £123.69. How do I work out the business element of that?
Divide into number of rooms: 123.69 / 10 = £12.37 for each room
Office use: £12.37 x 85% = £10.51
Living-room use: £12.37 x 10% = £1.24
Both rooms: £10.51 + £1.24 = £11.79
So I would put £11.79 into my accounts under “Use of Home”.
That’s a sample calculation based on the number of rooms in a house and the amount of use each room gets.
You might alternatively choose to work out the proportion based on floor area of each room. If you’re a home-based photographer with a large studio-cum-darkroom, and you use a lot of electricity in that room, then you could use floor area to work out the split between business and private use, if you think that’ll be fairer.
Just be prepared to justify how you’ve worked out the proportion if HM Revenue come calling.

What costs can I claim a percentage of?

Use the proportion to work out a percentage of your:
  • Council tax
  • Home insurance, unless your business is covered by a separate policy
  • Mortgage interest (not repayments of the capital, you can’t claim any of that)
  • Rent, if you rent your home from a landlord (as a sole trader you can’t claim to rent a room from yourself)
  • General household repairs and maintenance, for example repairs to the roof (but you can’t claim for redecoration to a room that has no business use)
  • Water rates, unless your business use of home is “minor” – e.g. you’re a jobbing gardener writing up your books at home. Because HM Revenue don’t think you’d use extra water for that, they won’t let you claim any.
Other costs you could include are:
  • Business telephone calls
  • A proportion of your landline rental, based on the ratio of business to private calls that you make (assuming you’re using one landline for both business and private calls)
  • A proportion of your broadband, based on the ratio of business to private Internet use
HM Revenue give information and examples about these costs on their website. These links are to manuals written for tax staff, so if you need anything translating from the jargon, please ask!

Are there any pitfalls to be aware of?

Yes.
Above I mentioned that I don’t use either my office or my living-room 100% for business. That’s very important.
Normally you don’t pay capital gains tax when you sell your main home. It’s exempt.
But if you use any part of your home just for business, then the exemption covering the main home will not apply to that part of your home – and you could have to pay capital gains tax. 
If, instead of using my office as a music-room as well, I just used it for business, then if and when my husband and I come to sell our home, I would at the very least have to do a capital gains tax calculation to see if I had any tax to pay on that room.
So if you run your business from home, try not to use any room just for business – and try and be able to prove that if you can.
For example, if HM Revenue came knocking at my front door, I could justify that the office is a music-room too by showing them my piano set up in there.

Do I get any tax relief for not polluting the environment by commuting?

Out of luck! There’s no relief for that – although there should be if cyclists get tax relief! Let’s start a campaign!
